The curtain has been dramatically lifted on Rakul Preet Singh’s striking transformation into Surpanakha, a pivotal character from the timeless Indian epic, courtesy of the grand visionaries behind Namit Malhotra’s Ramayana. This revelation transports us to the heart of the ambitious two-part cinematic saga, where Rakul stands resplendent as the Princess of Janasthan.
In a breathtaking poster unveiled by the creators, the caption reads, “Jansthan ki Rajkumari, Surpanakha. Rakul Preet Singh as Surpanakha,” encapsulating the essence of her regal persona. Clad in a rich, royal ensemble adorned with ornate headgear and lavish gold jewelry, Rakul embodies meticulous craftsmanship and the character’s visual splendor.
Reflecting on her role in this epic journey, Rakul shared, “To be part of Namit Malhotra’s Ramayana and portray Surpanakha is truly a special experience. Surpanakha holds a significant place in this legendary tale, and diving into her world has been an incredible journey as an actor. It’s an honor to contribute to a narrative cherished across generations, deeply rooted in our cultural heritage. I can’t wait for audiences to witness this portrayal and the majestic world that Nitesh Tiwari and Namit Malhotra are bringing to life on such a grand scale.”
Surpanakha, known as the sister of the formidable Ravana, has a destiny-altering encounter with Rama and Lakshman during their exile, setting off a chain of events that leads to the epic clash between Rama and Ravana.
Joining Rakul in this star-studded retelling are Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman. The cinematic masterpiece is a creation of Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios in collaboration with DNEG and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations, under the visionary direction of Nitesh Tiwari.
The epic unfolds in two parts, with the first set to captivate audiences globally on November 5, 2026, followed by the riveting conclusion on Diwali 2027. An IMAX release will enhance the experience, with the films available in multiple languages including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam. While Dharma Productions manages the Hindi distribution, Sony Pictures is tasked with taking this epic tale to audiences worldwide beyond India.
