Family Troubles and a Promising Future
Moo-Sik is in trouble with the tax authorities (NTS), so he goes to a tax accountant for help. The tax accountant tells him to try to work out a deal with the NTS by telling them he has no money. He finds out, though, that his father has died. Moo-Sik goes back to his hometown in 1983 and finds out that his father is a drug addict. His uncle tells him to go to college and tells him he will take care of his niece. When he gets home, his parents are fighting and he steps in to help.
Negotiations and Betrayal in the World of Gangsters
The NTS is mad at Moo-Sik and wants him to pay a lot of money. He tries to put the blame on someone else, but in the end, he talks the price down. He goes back to Manila and gives back the money he borrowed, plus interest. He also tries to get an old friend to help him with his business, but the friend warns him that he is being set up. Moo-Sik tests his friend’s loyalty and finds out that the warning was right. This makes him think about how he acts in the future.
Finding Stolen Money and Remembering Protests
Moo-Sik has to go back to Korea to get worthless bonds and look for money that was stolen from a casino. In flashbacks, we see how Moo-Sik met his wife and how he got arrested and accused of being a communist at a student protest. Even so, he is chosen to speak for the student council and gives a big speech.
