A Tale of a Casino Owner on the Run: From Daejeon to Manila
At the Regional Tax Office in Daejeon, Sang-Chul is asked about his role in opening the casino. He’s trying to make a point by saying he’s only a two-bit player, even though he owns 20% of the business. The problem is that if he doesn’t cooperate with the authorities, he will get blamed for everything.
So, Chi-Young is, of course, found and brought in. He calls Moo-Sik and tells him what’s going on. Then he realizes he has to run. Before he leaves, Moo-Sik tells Jong-Hyun (Lee Moon-Sik) to watch Chi-Young and help him if he needs it.
Then, in 1982, we went back to Daejeon. Two students from the year above, led by a guy named Sun-Gil, corner Moo-Sik, and his friends. Moo-Sik more than holds his own. When the bully’s dad gets involved, things don’t go well. That night, he pushes Sukja over and goes up to Moo-Sik with a knife in his hand. That is, until Kyung-Duk shows up, who seems to have gotten out of jail. He told Sun-Gil to stab him, but after the man stabbed himself in the chest, he turned and ran away.
Funny enough, this event brings Moo-Sik and Sun-Gil closer together. This relationship is important, especially when we go back to 2001. Moo-Sik takes a plane to Manila to go see Sun-Gil. It’s a productive trip since Seok-Jun shows him the casino, which has a lot of different games and is run by Seok-Jun.
The thing is, the tax office is looking for him, and the people who work there are determined to find him and bring him in. Moo-Sik is staying in a motel to stay out of sight. He gives his friend’s son a lot of money because he wants to help him reach his goal of becoming a famous football player.

Unfortunately, Moo-luck Sik starts to change, and he loses more money than he makes by gambling it all away. The House always wins, and even though Moo-Sik has already borrowed 10 million pesos, Seok-Jun offers him another million. In less than three months, he loses a total of 18 billion won, which includes the million he borrows. Ouch!
When Kang Min-Jung, the woman in charge of his case at the tax office, calls him, Moo-bad Sik’s luck gets even worse. She tells him about the taxes he hasn’t paid and wants him to come back and pay. She says that she will have him charged with a crime and that she will also involve Interpol. Moo-Sik gets angry and hangs up. He quickly calls his wife and tries to move her to the Philippines. But because he can’t stop gambling, he loses his apartment when he puts it up as collateral.
Chi-Young is sent to prison because Moo-Sik won’t play ball. While he was there, he told them that Moo-Sik had made a deal with the other workers. He agreed to give them a share of the profits if they each paid 50 million won. But this is to keep gangsters out of the casino and stop them from getting in. It works to keep the staff happy and motivated to work hard. He also says that Moo-Sik had a good name all over the country and that the machines alone brought in 7 or 8 billion won.
Moo-Sik is in trouble because he lost all his money gambling. He says he will pay the gangsters led by Sang-Gu back, but things don’t look good.
