The Forbidden Marriage Episode 12 Insights and Highlights: Political Intrigue and Personal Relationships in a Joseon Palace

At the end of our forbidden story, our heroes and the bad guys have a quick and final showdown. This leaves us with a lot of sweetness and romance.

As the drama gets closer to its climax, so does the process of choosing the queen, with Lady Seo’s constant efforts to make her daughter the new ruler. She sets traps for the other candidates, like giving them drinks with drugs in them or taking them away by default, but Hwa-Yoon is always smarter than her. At some point, Hwa-Yoon, or Shin-won dressed up as Hwa-Yoon, lets herself be kidnapped. This is a trap to lead the kidnappers to their hiding places and arrest them. Shin-won looks great with his hair down like that, by the way. Lol.

The Forbidden Marriage Episode 12 Insights

The information seems to be a summary of the plot of a made-up drama or story, most likely a TV show or a book. The story takes place in a Joseon palace and is about politics, personal relationships, and choosing a new queen. Lady Seo, Hwa-Yoon, Shin-won, Heon, Minister Jo, So-rang, Court Lady Won, and ARTIST JEONG are the main characters. The story is about Lady Seo’s attempts to make her daughter the new ruler, the traps she sets for the other candidates, and the constant fight between Hwa-Yoon, Shin-won, and her. In the story, there is also a group called the Moseolodan. They are a group of single people who hold protests to get rid of the ban on marriage and make the process of choosing mates fair. The story comes to a close with the coronation of a new queen, the discovery of a lie, and the end of the Moseolodan protest. So-rang becomes a queen in the end, and Lady Seo and Hyeon-hee are arrested and taken away.

Political Intrigue and Personal Relationships in a Joseon Palace

Heon tells Minister Jo to handle the questioning himself, and Heon’s henchman admits that he killed the crown princess and the other women who died in her quarters. Even though he won’t say who his master is, Heon isn’t done with him yet. Minister Jo, who wants to kill the guy to cover his tracks, isn’t either.

So-rang is arrested when she is caught red-handed (or, more accurately, rash-handed) as the mastermind behind the spiked tea. This is because she got a rash on her hands when she touched the tea while doing her own private investigation. What a way to put one foot in front of the other! The wishy-washy dowager knows that outside forces are messing with the selection, but she chooses to deal with it in a political way by locking up So-rang to set a trap for Lady Seo and her followers.

When Court Lady Won found out that her husband had married her sister and that they had raised her son together, she went back to the palace. Well, she didn’t think her (ex)husband would stay single forever, and she’s happy to be Cupid’s way of bringing her brother and sister together. So-rang thinks that her situation with Heon and her stepsister is about to be the same as Court Lady Won’s, but Court Lady Won says that So-rang will not have the same fate. She finds the court ladies on Lady Seo’s payroll with a little prodding and emotional blackmail here and there. This proves So-innocence, rang’s and he is set free. Hooray!

But they aren’t the only ones who want the process to be free and fair. Over the course of the drama, the Moseolodan, a group of single and ready-to-date Joseon citizens, has grown, and their ideals are spread by ARTIST JEONG (Hong Shi-young, also known as Giriboy), who puts the pain of his one-sided feelings for Hae-young into his best-selling webtoon, “Dating Rules for Singles.” Lol.

The Crowning of a New Queen and the Unveiling of a Fraud

The Moseolodan have had enough of the bad guys messing with the selection and making the marriage ban last longer, so they hold a protest at the palace and ask for the ban to be lifted. Heon tells the guards to open the gate for them. After a long, passionate speech about the murder of the crown princess and other events that hurt the selection, the results of this year’s selection are announced.

Without further ado, we invite the dowager to tell us which of Hwa-Yoon and Hyeon-hee is the winner. All of this is just for show since they both already know who won. In the second round of the selection process, Hwa-Yoon got the highest score, but in the last round, she said she wanted to drop out because she didn’t want to be queen. After all, the king loves her “rival,” and royal marriages should be based on love, not politics, for the good of the country.

“Yes, I want Ye Hyeon-Seon to be queen,” The dowager told Hwa-Yoon that if she quits, Hyeon-Seon will become queen by default since she and Hwa-Yoon are the last two candidates. So, Ye Hyeon-Seon is named the new queen. Hyeon-hee, also known as the fake Hyeon-Seon, steps forward with great joy. But hold on. Another foot steps forward from the shadows, too. Ta-da, it’s So-rang!

The dowager asks, “Who is the real Ye Hyeon-Seon?” as the two women face each other. Hyeon-hee falters. So-rang is strong-willed. Even though the dowager already knows, she still calls their father (Eom Hyo-Seob) out to clear the air, which ends the argument. Lady Seo is arrested, Minister Jo turns a blind eye, and Hyeon-hee is taken away by her father. He is so ashamed that he believed Lady Seo’s words that his oldest daughter ran away with a man that he can’t even look So-rang in the eye. How sad.

Resolution of the Moseolodan Protest and Selection of the New Queen

Anyway, getting back to how we chose, the results are out and So-rang has the ball. Heon had already asked her this before, but she said no. He asks her again, “Will you be my queen?” and this time she says yes. Shin-won gives a small smile as the crowd cheers. Heon makes it official that the marriage ban is over, and everyone goes crazy. Finish. Now everyone can go home. Hehehe. Just kidding. But really, the rest is just filler.

It was a great idea to keep the drama at 12 episodes because they had to work hard to fill up the last 40 minutes or so of the last episode. I mean, did they really frame the scenes where the many Joseon lovers asked each other to marry like an Instagram reel? Are you kidding me? Still, it was kind of fun.

The Forbidden Marriage Episode 12 Insights and Highlights

The late crown princess finally has a proper gravesite, and it’s sweet that So-rang is there to comfort the father of her predecessor. Lady Seo is hanged, and Hyeon-hee is made a slave. The man who works for Minister Jo says that his boss is the one who is behind all the bad things, so Minister Jo pulls out his sword and points it at the king. He doesn’t apologize until his last breath, which is a trait I like in bad guys, and the king kills him. No Min-woo shows up again to talk to the guy who stole his sister, and I love that they let the guy die by his own hands.

Even though we see everyone else getting married in Joseon, we don’t get to see the royal wedding. All we see is So-rang in her wedding dress. Pffft. So-rang worries that she isn’t good enough to be queen, but no one knows the people of Joseon better than someone who used to be a tramp and went all over the country. Also, since she helped get rid of the ban on marriage, she can work with the king to make more laws that help the people.

Reflections on the Conclusion of the TV Show ‘Crash Landing on You

Gwang-words Yi’s make sense, and So-first rang’s policy is to give more time off for mothers and fathers. Heon gets so scared of what will happen after the baby is born that it’s funny, and he tells So-rang that he just wants her to be alone and not have any kids. Right now, he’s acting like a baby, and I don’t think she needs another one. But when he says that abstinence is the best way to stop having children, So-rang has to shut down the idea. LMAO!

In the end, everyone finds their own person, from Hae-young and Artist Jeong to the king’s eunuch and Court Lady Won, who both adopt three children. Crash Landing on Shin-won gives the lead role to Hwa-Yoon (literally, thanks to their parents and So-rang), and I can get behind this pair. I almost got cavities from all the sugar in the never-ending filler scenes, but the people we care about got a happy ending, and that’s all that matters.

PS: Jeong, an artist, starts a new piece called “The Forbidden Marriage.” It should be a lot more silly than the drama version, which wasn’t bad but was dragged down by all Minister Jo and Lady Seo nonsense.
PPS: It seems likely that the kids we see after the time jump are Shin-son won’s and So-daughter, rang’s but please don’t tell me they’re going to be each other’s first loves. *Facepalm* Oh my goodness! I’m going to leave.

The Forbidden Marriage Episode 12 Review

The sad stories of Sang-Ju, Cho, Seo, and Hyun-hee are quickly wrapped up by the end of The Forbidden Marriage. Instead, it focuses on stories that end well.

After the last few serious episodes, it’s nice to get back to the funny stuff. So-rang and the King once tried to sleep together, but the Grand Queen Mother woke them up and took So-rang away for 40 days.

We also get to see how So-rang and Court Lady Won used to act when she got tired of her lessons. And since it is a romantic comedy, it is cute to see that all of the characters, including Gwang Yi and the Gongnyang bandits, finally find love.

We would have liked to see more of Hwa-Yoon and Shin-Won because even their brief interactions were cute, but there is always the chance of a second season.
