The story starts in the land of Daeho, where mages can use the power of the lake to do their jobs. The lake is surrounded by a mysterious land that gives it even more power. One of the respected mages is Jang Uk-Jang Kang’s father. Jang Uk-Jang Kang is the leader of the mages and a fanatic whose interest in the alchemy of souls brings him there.
A powerful but forbidden spell that can help the person who uses it switch bodies. Jang Kang’s life falls apart after he trades bodies with the sick king who asks him to do so. The king then has an heir of his own with Jang Kang’s wife, which sets off a chain of bad things for everyone.
When Jang Kang finds out that the baby was born under the King’s Star, he blocks the energy gates of the baby Jang Uk to keep him safe and then leaves.
Years later, the leader of Songrim, Park Jin, is seen following the notorious assassin Naksu, who says he killed many mages. He can hurt her enough to kill her, but he can’t stop her from running away.
Naksu rushes to use the alchemy of souls to save herself, but she ends up in the body of Mu-deok, a blind girl who can’t do anything. Now that she doesn’t have any powers of her own and only has a set of skills she can’t use, she tries to get her sword back, thinking that it will give her powers again.
Later, she meets Jang Uk, who knows who she is because of the mark in her eyes that shows she is a shapeshifter. He makes her his servant and then asks her to be his master, but she says no. Instead, she tries to get to her sword, but when word gets out that a soul shifter is hiding in Songrim, she gets stuck there.
The Quest for Power: A Soul Shifter’s Journey Through the World of Jin Family and Sapsali
Park Jin asks the Jin family for help as Jin Cho-yeon brings the Sapsali to look for the soul shifter among them. Mu-deok is lucky that a soul shifter gets caught and draws everyone’s attention away from him while the Sapsali chases him. Jang Uk saves Mu-deok again, but this time he breaks Sapsali’s pottery and is punished for it.
Later, Mu-deok tells him goodbye and tries to go back to her place, but when she gets there, everyone is watching her body being burned. Then, Jang Uk shows up with her sword, which gives her hope. But she falls again when she can’t get her sword out of its sheath.
She has nothing left to live for, so she tries to kill herself in the lake. But the lake gives her power, which lets her pull out her sword. Realizing that she needs a lot of power to get her energy back, she takes Jang Uk on as a student.
After a poisonous fight and harsh punishments, she is able to help Jang Uk open the gates to his energy, but he can’t control it. When Jang Uk tried to take Jang Kang’s sword, the crown prince came and got into a fight with him.
But because Mu-deok gets in the way, the crown prince loses. This becomes a bigger problem when Jin Mu sees this as a chance to stop Jang Uk from taking over as Gwangju after his father. Then, Mu-deok and Jang Uk leave the capital. Mu-deok takes Jang Uk to the place where she lived for years.
When they get to Danhyanggok, they meet master Lee, who is one of Seo Gyeong’s students. The two start their days there, but soon u-deok realises that Jang Uk isn’t as interested in learning as he is, so he tries to get him back on board. Soon, they start training, and Mu-deok teaches Jang Uk her special skill, Tansu.
Seo Yul tells Park Jin and Heo Yeom that he knew Naksu when he was younger. This helps them figure out that she was the missing daughter of a constellation mage who went crazy after becoming a soul shifter. Jang Uk and Mu-deok go back to the capital. After a series of events, Mu-deok goes to Jinyowon to get away from Kil-joo, but she gets stuck in the Mirror of Longing.
The relic that trapped her makes an image of her in front of Seo Yul and the crown prince, which scares them as they run to the Jin family house. Jang Uk also goes there to look for Mu-deck, and all three of them go into Jinyowon.
The Struggle for Power: A Soul Shifter’s Battle Against Kil-joo and the Quest for the Real Danju
Jang Uk finds out quickly that Mu-deok is stuck in the mirror and covers it so he doesn’t get stuck in himself. Then Mu-deok touches the surface of the mirror, which breaks it. The two can then leave Jinyowon.
Later, Kil-joo uses his power to force Mu-deok to bring Jang Uk to him so he can soul shift into his body. Mu-deok can’t do this, so he tells Jang Uk. Jang Uk tells Mu-deok to go meet Kil-joo. Jang Uk fights Kil-joo when they first meet, and he can beat him. Suddenly, though, Kil-joo starts alchemy, and they enter the world of soul shifting.
Lucky for Jang Uk, the real Mu-deok saves him and doesn’t let Kil-joo win. After that, the truth about how Naksu’s father died is revealed. He also says that Jin Mu is not the real Danju because the real Danju has the ice stone, which keeps soul shifters from going crazy.
Then, he tries to get away and find the real Danju, who is the queen, but he dies in front of the palace at the hands of Jang Uk. Jang Uk says he will bring the ice stone to Mu-deok and then beats the crown prince in a fight.
He is then approached by people from different groups, and he chooses to join Songrim. After the celebrations start, Jang Uk is taken back to Songrim, and Mu-deok is sent home because personal servants are not allowed inside.
She has no choice but to enter the competition to get a job in Songrim. She tells Jang Uk that she will soon follow him by giving him a flyer about the competition. For now, they are apart because Park Jin has a task for Jang Uk, which keeps him busy while Mu-deok competes.
Mu-deok gets help from the crown prince, Seo Yul, and Park Dong-gu, and soon he is able to pass all of the tests in the hiring process. Jang Uk and Mu-deok meet up after the competition, and Mu-deok tells Jang Uk that he is starting to feel something for her. He tells her he missed her too.
But Mu-deok isn’t ready to accept these feelings, so he tells Jang Uk they aren’t true. This makes Jang Uk sad for days. Since she had no other choice, she took over as his master again and made him fight 10 mages with the help of the crown prince.
Jin Mu and the queen are planning something big while they use Jin Woo-tak to make So Yi look like Jin Bu-yeon. On the other hand, master Lee and Park Jin talk about Jang Uk, and master Lee tells Park Jin that he, too, was born under the King’s Star, just like Jang Uk.
A Soul Shifter’s Journey Through the World of Jin Family, Sapsali, and Cheonbugwan
Park Jin later goes to a funeral, where she sees Seo Yul stab a soul shifter. He later tries to catch him, but the soul shifter is killed by Yeom Soo. But Seo Yul, who now knows the truth about Mu-deok, is changed by this event.
When the days for the duels come, Jang Uk loses each one. After his ninth loss, he goes with Mu-deok to Cheonbugwan to do a job. There, he meets a eunuch who can change his or her soul. Jin Mu finds them and tells the eunuch to take Mu-energy deok’s and shift into Jang Uk’s body. But when he attacks Mu-deok, Mu-deok absorbs his energy, which shocks and frightens her.
Later, Jang Uk uses his smarts to call for the crown prince, and the two of them are able to get away, only to be shocked when the eunuch they thought was dead shows up. They are able to leave Cheonbugwan, but Mu-deok is afraid of getting too close to Jang Uk. Meanwhile, master Lee takes Jang Uk fishing, which helps him get to Chisu.
When the last match starts, he finds out that Mu-deok has put herself on the line. He gets ready again, but Seo Yul is there to fight him, and he loses in the end. Later, Mu-deok goes to meet Jang Uk and looks for the jade that the crown prince had thrown away. But when she sees him with Heo Yoon-ok, she gets angry, which makes Jang Uk kiss her.
Later, master Lee takes him, Seo Yul, and Park Dang-gu to the palace. There, master Lee tells them that he is a soul shifter. He tells the king that he knows how to find soul-shifters and causes the queen and Jin Mu to be afraid.
Park Jin thinks that Mu-deok is responsible for the murders, but Jin Cho-yeon helps her out while he tests Mu-deok and Jang Uk and finds that they love each other. The next day, Jin Ho-kyung finds a way to stir up trouble in Songrim, which shows what Park Dang-gu and Jin Cho-yeon are like as a couple.
The two go against their family and go to Jang Uk’s house for safety. Jang Uk finds out that Seo Yul knows the truth about Mu-deok, while the queen plans to run away because people are starting to suspect her. Soon, Jang Uk goes out to find out more about shaman Choi, and he runs into Jang Kang.
On the other hand, Jin Mu brings So Yi to Jin Ho-kyung while she is disguised as Jin Bu-yeon. They bring her to the Jinyowon doors, which open because Mu-deok is standing behind the group.
Jang Uk doesn’t recognise Jang Kang, and Ho-kyung gets suspicious of So Yi quickly. So Yi is taken to a meeting and introduced as the new leader, but Ho-kyung doesn’t know that the shaman Choi is getting ready to take over the queen’s body.
Jin Ho-kyung brings the ice stone to everyone else, which makes them even more hungry, while Park Jin tries to get the mages there to destroy the stone. Jang Uk shows up and tries to keep the meeting from happening while telling the crown prince what he thinks about the queen.
A Soul Shifter’s Quest for Freedom and Redemption Amidst the World of Jin Family, Sapsali, and Cheonbugwan
Later, the king wants to see how well the ice stone works, so he makes Mu-deok the test subject. Mu-deok is ready to die and be brought back to life. He stands in front of Jin Ho-kyung. Jin Ho-kyung is shocked when Jin Bu-yeon screams “Mother” while being choked because she remembers her childhood. A storm is on the way.
Mu-deok finds herself in the storm, where she meets the real Jin Bu-yeon, who warns her about the burden she will have to carry if she uses the stone. She also learns that the barrier is the ice stone. She is ready to shift her soul and says goodbye to everyone, but she can’t because a soul shifter has broken through the barrier.
She stops her plans because she knows that mages won’t be able to use their powers inside the barrier while soul shifters are getting stronger. But when Seo Yul is attacked, So Yi puts her blood worm into his body. She soon finds out that Jang Uk has put himself in danger and runs to save him. Now that she knows how much she loves Jang Uk, she can’t say goodbye to him, so he gives her another promise and a kiss.
Then, Jang Uk finds a way to break through the barrier, and instead of the King’s Star, he is standing among the stars with the ice stone in front of him. Everyone sees the star rise, but everyone except Park Jin thinks the crown prince did it.
After the shaman Choi dies and Jin Woo-tak tells the truth, the disaster ends quickly. As goodbyes are said to Seo Yul, people are excited about the wedding of Park Dang-gu and Jin Cho-yeon, which is coming up soon. Jang Uk and Mu-deok both want to get married soon and for themselves.
But the good times don’t last long because Jin Mu gets the bells from shaman Choi and casts a spell on Mu-deok to control her. He tells Mu-deok to kill Jin Woo-tak and run wild in Songrim on the day of the wedding.
Jin Cho-yeon and Park Dang-gu see Mu-deok attack Jin Woo-tak when she gets to Sejukwon. They try to stop her, but fail. She kills Jin Woo-tak, but then she goes crazy in Songrim and stabs Jang Uk, which wakes her up for a moment.
Jin Mu goes to Songrim and tells Mu-deok the truth about himself while calling Jang Uk a criminal. He rings the bells again, and Mu-deok is once again under his control. She leaves the scene while people are still upset about their loved ones.
Jin Cho-yeon vows to get even after this, and Jin Mu is able to prove that Jang Uk is a criminal, so he gives him a funeral fit for a criminal. But when the fire is lit on Jang Uk’s body, something unexpected happens that turns the fire blue and shocks everyone.
Mu-deok, on the other hand, knows what’s going on and jumps into the lake, which is a grave for soul shifters, only to be saved by people he doesn’t know. Jang Uk has been born again somewhere else.
