Crash Course in Romance Episode 1 Highlights
The Story of Nam Haeng-Seon and Choi Chi-Yeol
The Gangnam academy district is where our new Korean drama on Netflix takes place. This is the best place in Korea for private education. High education makes you more important in society, so the rich have an advantage here. But not everyone is wealthy. Enter stage right: Nam Haeng-Seon. This friendly woman runs a food shop called Nation’s Best Banchan, which she owns and runs herself.
Choi Chi-Yeol, a math tutor, is already flying high, while Haeng-Seon stumbles before she even gets started. He’s in commercials, his face is on billboards everywhere, and the Gangnam academy district is built around him. In fact, he is known as the “One Trillion Won Man” because he is so good at managing his time. He’s, uh, figured it out. Sorry, I have to leave.
Cho Chi-Yeol doesn’t like it when a possible rival starts taking online classes on the day of the June mock. He doesn’t like that Song Jun-ho is on his turf, so he goes against him right away and shuts down all of his ideas. In fact, the poor guy ends up falling off a cliff and getting less than 100 views. Chi-Yeol gets more than 50,000 views.
The Struggles and Relationships of Students and Faculty
Then, we meet a few kids who attend this academy. Su-A is the best student, but she doesn’t like that she has to sit further back than Chi-Yeol. Hae-e and Sun-Jae get along like two peas in a pod. They ride the bus together and enjoy being with each other. Hae-e picks up a flyer for Chi-classes yeol’s before going home to see her mother, whose name is Haeng-Seon. Also, she has an uncle named Jae-woo who is a bit strange.
Chi-Yeol uses all the tricks of the trade to get his class to pay attention by talking about hard math problems. Haeng-Seon, on the other hand, has her own stamina and can keep the academy moms who come to her shop entertained. She doesn’t seem to have any time for love, which is a lot like Chi-Yeol, who also feels the same way. Some of this, though, might be because he keeps having a strange vision of a student running toward him.
Late that same night, a school kid runs over to Chi-place yeol’s and goes in without asking. He manages to get her out, but before she gets into the taxi Chi-Yeol has called, the girl throws her arms around him and forces a hug. Chi-Yeol tries to get her off, but someone takes pictures of them together from a distance.
The Challenges Faced by Haeng-Seon and Chi-Yeol in the Elite Academy
At the same time, Jae-woo gets a fever and has to go to the hospital. Haeng-Seon is there to help him, but she’s pretty tired from running her shop, taking care of Hae-e, and trying to do the best she can. Haeng-Seon stays strong as she wipes her brother’s forehead and tries to make the best of a bad situation.
Chi-Yeol has a rough night of sleep, sleeping on the floor in a sleeping bag. The next morning, he gets a call telling him to check Studyhard.com. Unfortunately, Chi-Yeol is getting a lot of attention because of the pictures he took with the student the night before.

His assistant tells him that the situation will be fine in a few days, but the fact that the student posted that they’re dating is enough to make him feel worried and cancel the lesson for that afternoon. Chi-Yeol isn’t getting enough food, isn’t sleeping well and is under a lot of stress. Dong-hee, who works for him, is worried because he needs to take better care of himself.
Chi-Yeol sees Jae-woo taking pictures of him at the hospital. Chi0-Yeol finds it hard to believe that Jae-woo took a picture of the tiger on his jacket, which leads to a big mix-up. Jae-woo actually runs out of the hospital and tries to escape.
The thing is, Haeng-Seon is very fast and has a lot of stamina. Chi-Yeol gets away from her by running into the men’s bathroom. Here, he checks his phone and sees that she was right. The picture he took was only of the tiger.
Chi-Yeol’s Hard Day and the Consequences of His Actions
Chi-Yeol throws the phone to Haeng-Seon as she walks by in the hallway, but she misses it and it falls to the floor. She is shocked to see that the whole screen is broken, so she runs away. Haeng-Seon realizes that this is an extra cost, and what’s worse, Jae-woo is devastated when he finds that the screen on his phone is broken.
At school, things are hard for Hae-e. Hae-e gets angry at Haeng-Seon because she and her husband aren’t as wealthy as the other parents. saying that since she is her stepmother, she doesn’t care as much. Well, she is her aunt and is taking care of her, but the point still stands.
As Hae-e leaves, it really hurts our main character. She thinks that life is unfair and is upset about it. The other parents get helpers or dry cleaners to do their homework, but Hae-e has to try to do it all herself. She doesn’t have time to study, so she’s having trouble in class. Hae-e apologizes when Haeng-Seon comes after her, but she also asks Haeng-Seon to help her get into Chi-class.
Chi-Yeol has had a hard day. Between running and the class scandal, he ends up getting food… from Haeng-shop. It will completely change his life. It’s kind of like when the chef critic in the movie Ratatouille eats the ratatouille. This food actually gives him a reason to eat, and as a result, he can’t control his emotions.
Crash Course in Romance Episode 1 Review
The first episode of Crash Course in Romance is really good. It combines parts of shows like Sky Castle with the quirky romance and comedy of shows like Secretary Kim. Surprisingly, the mix of styles works well, and this show already has a lot going for it.
The editing is perfect, switching back and forth between Chi-Yeol and Haeng-Seon without any trouble. In the end, when these two are about to fall into each other’s lives, it all comes together in a lovely moment.
So far, the soundtrack is also really good, and all of the actors are doing a great job. Roh Yoon-Seo was a great actress in Our Blues last year, and she’s just as good here as Hae-e. You can totally relate to her character and understand why she’s so angry, and this chapter does a great job of showing that without making her seem like a complete brat.
