A New Chapter for Midlife Women: The 50/50 Matrenaissance Project Invites Stories of Reinvention After 50
WILMINGTON, N.C., Oct. 9, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — The 50/50 Matrenaissance Project launches this week with an open invitation for women to share real stories of reinvention, purpose, and possibility after 50. The six-month storytelling initiative will celebrate women who are reframing midlife not as decline, but as renewal.
The project is powered by Adjacent Doors, a growing movement dedicated to changing how society sees women in midlife – reminding them that when one door feels closed, there are always others beside it, often overlooked but filled with opportunity.
Created by Jennifer Brubaker, Ph.D., public scholar, professor of communication studies, author, and host of the Reframing Me podcast, the project builds on Brubaker’s larger body of work known as Matrenaissance – a framework and philosophy that describes the rebirth of the modern midlife woman, explored in her book Reframe the Moment and through her podcast. Grounded in communication theory and personal storytelling, Matrenaissance explores how women use reflection, dialogue, and community to reconstruct their sense of identity in midlife and beyond.
“At its core, Matrenaissance is about giving language to change,” Brubaker said. “Many women reach midlife and realize we’ve spent years managing everyone else’s story. This project is a way to reclaim our own.”
The 50/50 Matrenaissance Project is guided by Brubaker’s ReFRAME model – Recognize, Feel, Reflect, Articulate, Move, and Embody – a six-phase process designed to help women move from awareness to action. Each stage represents a step in the transformation journey: recognizing what no longer fits, feeling through the discomfort of change, reflecting on purpose, articulating new truths, moving toward aligned action, and embodying a renewed sense of self.
Turning 50 in April, Brubaker sees the project as both personal and cultural. “We celebrate 30 Under 30 and 40 Under 40 lists as if a woman’s influence expires with youth,” she said. “But reinvention after 50 takes a different kind of courage. Midlife women aren’t fading – we’re finally stepping into visibility, and it’s time the world saw that.”
Together, Matrenaissance and Adjacent Doors create a shared space where women can see themselves not as “past their prime” but as entering a powerful new one. Through storytelling, connection, and upcoming live events, the 50/50 Matrenaissance Project will spotlight up to fifty women who have redefined life after 50 – not through celebrity or status, but through courage, curiosity, and self-discovery.
Women can share their stories – or nominate someone whose reinvention inspires them – at AdjacentDoors.com, where submissions are now open.
