Thoughts on Island Episodes 3 and 4
Johan’s decision to stand his ground against Van may have had something to do with his goal to reawaken and defend Mi-ho. As the most recent episode reveals, the prophecy was once again emphasized, and we learn that Miho appears to be a crucial savior.
What viewers may be eager to learn is why Van murdered Wonjeong in the past and why he now decides to defend her. While we understand withholding information, particularly in supernatural stories involving a prophecy, there are glaring gaps in the placement of material in Island that are sometimes perplexing and complex.
Thankfully, the CGI effects in the battle scene between Van and Johan are not as restrained, which made that time captivating to watch.
The saving grace is how perceptible the cast’s chemistry is thus far. Thankfully, Miho can quickly and intelligently assess her circumstances. Therefore, we will not have to wait that long to learn the truth about what transpired in the past between Van and Wonjeong.
In the debut week, it was even suggested that the two have formed a unique friendship. Consequently, it is one of the plot aspects to observe as the story unfolds. The fact that Grandma Geum is close to Van indicates that there is a motive Van has yet to reveal for killing Wonjeong in the past.
Van and Gung-tan, who has been causing havoc from the shadows without showing themselves, should also be prepared for a clash.
Will Van stop in time to avoid gravely injuring Miho? Can Johan and Van coexist in order to safeguard Miho?
